As a child, Snow was always a quiet child, keeping to herself and going
on long walks in the forest. Growing up as a princess, you'd expect her
to have many friends, but that was not the case. The sixteen year old
never fit in with anyone, including her family. Her step mother hated
her ivory complexion cursing her father, whom was long dead.
Spring was in full bloom on the day Snow went on her daily walk in the
dense forest. She knew the closest part like the back of her hand. This
day, Snow walked deeper into the forest than ever before. As she
walked, but brush got denser and the creepers clung to the skirt of her
dress.
Time ticked by as the sun slowly went down, leaving shadows that danced
around the lost girl. When the moon came out, it gave an eerie glow to
the trees, with their arms clawing at the girl's dress, ripping it in
several places. The temperature dropped dramatically and Snow White
began to shake violently. Wandering around in circles, Snow tripped
over a branch and landed in a deep puddle of mud.
She crawled out of the puddle and made her way to the trunk of the near
by tree. Soaking wet and lost, the young girl nodded off into a
restless sleep. She awoke a time later when an owl hooted. Her eyes
darted around as she scanned the scenery for possible threats.
The bushes around her started rustling as the sun began to rise. Snow
White curled up so she wouldn't be discovered, but it was too late. The
beast burst through the bushes, directed at Snow. She whimpered as the
beast got closer. It stopped as it heard her whimper and lurched toward
her, out of the shadows.
Snow hasped as the beast emerged. It was a beautiful green girl. She
was clothed in flowers, leaves, and vines, and her hair was long and
green as well. As she walked closer, Snow discovered that she was
small. The breathtaking creature held out her hand to help the
awestruck girl to her feet.
As Snow grasped her hand and stood up, she could see the creature only
came up to her shoulders. The being had emerald green eyes that pierced
through Snow White's own icy blue ones. The two girls just stood there
silent for moments, just taking in each others shocking features.
The girl came to her senses and grabbed hold of Snow's hand, then
escorted her through the forest. After a time of walking through the
lush forest they reached a small house made of large branches tied
together. The clearing that held the house also had a little creek that
wound around the estate. Snow noticed several more green faces looking
through the window at her and began to feel uneasy.
As the pair got closer, the door swung open. Inside the little house
there was simple furniture that appeared to be hand made. Snow stayed
silent as the little creatures filed in to the house and made a
semicircle around her. She counted seven. All of them stood in silence,
each waiting for the next to break the silence.
The one that had found Snow spoke first, "Child, what has brought you to my sister, and I?"
Snow spoke timidly, "I... I got lost while on my walk through the woods."
One of the seven sisters whispered to another, then slipped out of the
house with a smirk on her face. All the sisters were equally beautiful,
and they were all green.
The first spoke again in her soft, poetic voice, "Young, lovely child,
how old are you? Where does such a beautiful child come from?"
The girl replied carefully, "I am but sixteen, and I come from nowhere and everywhere. I am a wanderer of my dreams."
Another sister laughed and said in a raspy voice, "With a dress like that? I doubt it, under that muck is a beautiful gown."
Snow looked around and thought of a new subject as to divert their attention away from her. "What are you creatures?"
They all replied in unison. "We are Forest Nymphs."
The first one spoke again, "We guard and protect the forest and everyone in it."
"What are you?" Asked Snow, turning even paler than before.
"We are Forest Nymphs. The greatest creatures you will ever meet." Replied the smallest Nymph in a high pitched voice.
Snow stood there waiting for something else to be said. The first Nymph clapped her hands and her sisters lined up single file.
"We'll have proper introductions, the our guest will be off the bed. She looks rather fatigued."
"Oh I am!" Declared Snow.
"I am Rose," said the first Nymph. She bowed to the girl and stepped to the side.
"Hello. I'm Aspen," said the raspy one, she then left the house.
"I'm Marigold!" Shouted the littlest one, then ran after her sister.
"The doubtful one said, "I'm Lily." Then followed suit.
Two Nymphs that were identical stepped forward and said in a unison, "We're Maple and Oak."
"Lovely to meet you all," Called Snow. "But wasn't there one more?"
Rose replied, "Yes, Poison. She had to attend to something. I'll show
you to your bed so you can rest." Rose showed Snow to a small room with
a bed made of soft, green moss. The lovely Nymph tucked the exhausted
girl into bed and left the room.
As she left the house, her sisters crowded around her, quietly speaking. They pelted her with questions about the girl.
"Where did you find the wench?" Asked Poison.
"Can we keep her?" Squealed the twins.
Rose lifted her hand to silence the girls. They fell silent and gave her a chance to speak.
"We need to find out where she came from and if anyone is going to come
looking for her. Don't you remember what happened last time?"
The sisters all nodded in unison.
"Poison, have you set the traps? Just in case she tries to escape," Rose asked.
Again, Poison nodded, but didn't speak.
"Good, so everyone is going to act normal until we find out more. When
she wakes up, I want Lily to have a pie ready for her. She will be
starving by then. Maple and Oak, I want you two to make her new
clothes. The rest of you, make sure the bones are well hidden."
The girls split up an got to their assigned tasks. Maple and Oak made a
beautiful, elegant dress out of vines and bright yellow flowers. The
girls all worked for the rest of the day until Snow White awoke at
dusk.
As she approached the kitchen, she overheard Aspen and Lily talking
quickly. Snow had a feeling that they were talking about her, so she
waited against the wall and listened.
"Do you think that we should put sleep weed in the pie?" Asked Aspen in her raspy voice.
"No. We don't want her to suspect anything. We need to find out more
about the girl. We don't even know her name or where she really came
from." Replied Lily.
This sent Snow into a panic. The first thought that crossed her mind
was to run, the second was that the room got chilly all of a sudden.
The girl spun around to face two angry Nymphs. Poison and Rose were
both glaring at the girl, whom was now trembling.
Poison glanced at Rose and moved her lips, but no sound escaped.
Rose said sweetly, "Poison wants to warn you not to run; you won't get
far." Rose cackled like the witch she was and she and Poison left the
room. The door was bolted shut a moment later.
Snow threw herself to the ground and sobbed in frustration. She pounded
the ground until her knuckles were bruised and bleeding.
The girl cried long and hard until she had no tears left. She missed
her horrible family and her comfortable bed. As much as she hated the
castle where she lived, at least she wasn't held captive or in danger.
After crying for such a long time, she was utterly exhausted. She fell
into a fitful sleep where she dreamed the most beautiful dreams.
The clouds were cotton and the grass was soft as a pillow. All the
animals were taking care of the lost girl and leading her home. The
birds sang and the sun shone brightly. Snow White danced around with
the forest creatures and wished the dream would never end, but of
course it did.
She was awoken by her grumbling stomach. Snow glanced around the room
and noticed that the pie Aspen and Lily had baked for her was sitting
on the dresser. She debated for a moment weather or not to eat it, but
then decided she would.
She gobbled down the whole pie and hoped that the Nymphs did put sleep
weed in the pie so that she could go back to her dream world. As she
waited for the sleep weed to kick in, she searched the room.
Snow suspected that there would be a secret escape somewhere in the room. She carefully and silently moved all the pictures and rugs in the room, but still she found nothing.
Giving up hope, Snow plopped down in the middle of the room. Suddenly,
the floor creaked and gave way underneath her. She fell only six feet,
at most, but it was still enough to knock the wind out of her and cover
her in bruises.
When she regained her composure, she stood up and realized that it was
a tunnel she had found herself in. Snow dusted herself off and peered
into the velvety darkness. The tunnel smelled of dirt and decay, Snow
almost gagged at the smell.
She placed a trembling hand against the cold, damp wall of dirt. The
girl took a few slow steps and felt her way along the path. She kept
tripping on the loose stones and mounds of dirt, so after several
falls. she just decided to crawl.
After what seemed like hours of crawling, she hit her head on something
hard. She reached out and felt along the surface, it evened out along
the top, like stairs. Snow started ascending the after four or five
stairs, her head bumped into something solid.
She pushed open the trap door, and the bright light of the day
temporarily blinded her. When her eyes adjusted to the brightness, she
saw the she was free! She leaped out of the tunnel and was grabbed by
two pairs of hands.
Her head whipped around and she saw two green beasts. They were hideous Nymphs in their true form, and they were mad. Snow White recognized them as Rose and Poison, as they started going back to their beautiful, less terrifying forms.
"We warned you not to run. Now we have no choice but to take care of you." Growled Rose.
Snow struggled to get free, but Poison was too strong. Poison dragged
Snow behind her, but the girl kept kicking and screaming. Finally,
Poison had enough, she squeezed a pressure point in the girls neck, and
instantly she slumped forward. Poison slung the unconscious girl over
her shoulders, and started back to the cabin.
When Snow woke up, she noticed that Poison was standing guard. She was
a prisoner! She knew that she had to escape, somehow... Suddenly, she
had an idea!
"Can I go to the bathroom?" She asked.
Poison nodded and followed her to the door.
"Some privacy would be nice," said Snow rudely. Poison backed up a few
pace, and Snow White went in. As soon as the door closed behind her,
she opened the window and silently slipped out.
The girl took three timid steps, and then began to run. She didn't get
more than fifty steps when she felt an unbearable pain in her leg and
crashed to the forest floor. She lost consciousness.
As the days went past, her family had been searching for her day and
night. After many days of searching, they gave up, guessing that the
wolves had gotten their poor daughter. Less than a week after they gave
up searching, a present appeared at the palace gate. It was wrapped in
leaves and vines, and had a card attached.
The card read, "We hope you enjoy the soup, love the Nymphs."
Inside was a large cauldron of soup. The King took a small sip of the
broth and found it tasted better than any sustenance he had ever tasted
before. When he and the rest of the family had gotten to the bottom of
the cauldron, there was something so terrifying that the king couldn't
contain himself.
As the King fell to his knees he screamed, "You will pay Nymphs, I will have revenge for my daughter!"
